When To List Auctions Items On EBay – A Guide To Selling On EBay

This article title may be asking a strange question, but it really menat by “When to list an item on eBay”, I mean:

When is the Optimum Time for eBay Listings to End?

This may sound like a very different question, but it actually isn’t. You may already be aware of this, but the majority of bidding on items on eBay is done in the last few hours. This is due to a well known tactic called sniping, where people try to leave as little time as possible for other people to respond to their bids. So, with this in mind, its important to make sure that your items finish during a period where as many people as possible from your target audience are likely to see, and bid on, your items. This way you maximise the number of potential bidders available to bid on your auctions during this vital period for your auctions.

The obvious answer here is to have your auctions finishing when the peak number of people are on eBay. With this in mind, I recommend that you try to make sure that your auctions finish during the daytime at the weekend. Also, if you look at general Internet browsing habits, the majority of people are on the Internet during the afternoon or early evening during the weekends. So, the rule of thumb here is:

Your auctions need to end during weekend afternoons or evenings

Using that idea as a principal, you should list your items at the following times dependant on the length of auction:

* 1 day duration auction – start Friday or Saturday afternoon or evening

* 3 day auction – Wednesday or Thursday afternoon or evening

* 5 day auction – Monday or Tuesday afternoon or evening

* 7 day listing – Saturday or Sunday afternoon / evening

* 10 day listing – Wednesday or Thursday afternoon / evening

My recommendation is to start your auctions on Thursday afternoon/evening using the 10 day auction format. This is the optimum choice because:

1. Your listings are on eBay for two entire weekends – when the majority of users are browsing eBay

2. This is maximum time for an auction to be listed so you give plenty of time for people to find and Watch your listings until it comes time for them to bid

3. Your auction ends at 5pm on Sunday, which is a peak usage period for eBay.

It is essential to remember that timing is very important on eBay, if you keep this in mind for your next auctions, you will ensure you get the most out of your auctions.
