Tip #1: The fact of the matter is that on eBay you can sell virtually any product. And although you could probably find someone who would buy your fingernails, that’s not really the issue. You don’t want to sell just any product; you want to sell what you can consistently earn a profit. Many people starting out on eBay want to sell cool items such as DVDs or the latest electronic gadget, but this is not generally the best way to break into eBay if you are starting from scratch.

If you are just starting out, the first thing you must know is that legitimate wholesale DVDs–even though they are wholesale–are expensive. That means, for example, that you really can’t buy brand new releases–non counterfeit releases–of box office hits for $2, $3, or even $5. I know that this contradicts the low cost that you see on eBay and with Amazon merchants. $2 and $5 and far less may be accurate for lower demand older movies, but you cannot pick up a copy of, say, “Batman Begins” for $2 or $5 or $7. The real wholesale cost for a single copy is closer to $19 and change. That is if you are purchasing from a true wholesale distributor authorized by the studio to sell to the retail trade.

One of the first things to understand about wholesale DVDs is that genuine, non-counterfeit, Wholesale DVDs are not cheap. By cheap, I mean literally for a few bucks. When I first started out, I truly believed that I could buy current release, wholesale DVDs of box office hits for between $2 to $5. Nothing could be further from the truth. I know that as a buyer you see prices this low on eBay and with Amazon merchant sellers. Even though they may be selling at that price, I guarantee you that a legitimate wholesale DVD of a box office hit, such as “Batman Begins,” or “Inception” will not sell for $2 a pop. The real wholesale price will be closer to $19 if you purchasing from a studio authorized wholesaler.
